Sarah is a physiotherapist to the Australian Ballet School and has been for many years. She is arguably the most experienced ballet physiotherapist in Australia. Sarah had dance training before qualifying as a physiotherapist. After gaining general physiotherapy experience, she worked for five years at The Royal Ballet School and the Remedial Dance Clinic in London, Britain’s first specialist dance injury centre.
Sarah arrived in Australia and promptly established The Melbourne Dance Clinic, the first physiotherapy clinic in Australia devoted solely to the treatment of dancers. She was invited to provide physiotherapy services to The Australian Ballet School and subsequently The Australian Ballet.
Sarah’s work at the Melbourne Dance and Performers Clinic involves consulting dancers from part and full time dance training schools in Melbourne and regional Victoria, as well as professional dancers, including those based overseas.
Sarah has a keen understanding as to the relationship between technique, physical makeup and injury. Apart from caring for injuries Sarah also performs pointe assessments for young dance students. She is able to give guidance as to how young dancers may optimise their body’s physique to allow them the best chance to reduce injury and enhance their technique.
Currently, Sarah continues to work at The Australian Ballet School where she has been very much involved with establishing the team of health professionals for which the school is well known.
